Growing stores, one honest take at a time.

Cheaper Northbeam alternatives, and what you give up

Northbeam’s Starter plan is listed from $1,500 a month for brands spending under $1.5 million a year on ads. For a brand doing $3M in revenue, that is a real line item, and the useful question is not whether cheaper tools exist but what they leave out to get there. Usually it is one of three things: modeled credit for ad views, the machine learning built across Northbeam’s customer base, or the service layer that comes with it.

These five cost less, roughly ordered by how much of the core job they keep. I laid out the full cost picture, including the higher tiers, in how much does Northbeam cost.

1. ThoughtMetric

ThoughtMetric starts at $99 a month for 50,000 pageviews, with every feature on every plan and monthly billing. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.) It is cheaper because it prices on traffic instead of ad spend and does not bundle a managed service layer, not because the core is thin. You get multi-touch attribution with five models, post-purchase surveys folded into the model, new-customer ROAS by campaign and ad, and a conversion API that sends data back to the ad platforms. What you give up is view-through modeling, which matters if video is most of your budget.

2. Le Pixel by Lebesgue

Le Pixel is Lebesgue’s attribution pixel for Shopify, listed from $99 a month on its Shopify listing with a free trial and pricing tiers based on yearly revenue. It leans toward lifetime value, crediting channels for the long-term worth of the customers they bring in, and works alongside Lebesgue’s AI marketing app. It is Shopify-only, which is a limit if you also sell on another platform.

3. Triple Whale

Triple Whale Foundation is listed at $219 a month on its Shopify listing, and pricing climbs with annual GMV, so it is cheapest for smaller brands and gets closer to Northbeam as you grow. It includes multi-touch attribution with a clicks and deterministic views model, which makes it the closest cheaper match to Northbeam on method. The catch is commitment. Its pricing page states that Foundation, Automate, and Enterprise are 12-month subscriptions, even when billed monthly. Details in how much does Triple Whale cost.

4. Wicked Reports

Wicked Reports starts at $499 a month for its Measure plan in the lowest revenue band, up to $2.5M a year, with Scale at $699 and Maximize at $999. That is not cheap, but at a third of Northbeam Starter it gives repeat-driven brands a model built around lifetime value and lifetime lookback, which Northbeam treats as a secondary view.

5. GA4

GA4 is free, and its data-driven attribution is better than its reputation in e-commerce circles. Its limits are real, though. It only sees what reaches your site with usable tracking, it cannot see impressions on Meta or TikTok, and identity across devices is weak without signed-in users. As a free baseline for a brand that is not ready to pay for attribution, it is still worth setting up properly. I covered how it fits next to a paid tool in do I still need GA4 if I have an attribution tool.

Where the savings come from

Northbeam’s price pays for modeled view credit, models trained across a large customer base, and service. If you need all three, a cheaper tool will feel cheaper. If what you mainly need is clean, consistent attribution that you trust more than the ad platforms, most of that price goes to things you will not use.

A practical test is to list the last five budget decisions you made and ask which of them would have needed view modeling to get right. If the answer is none, because the calls were about search versus shopping, or which Meta prospecting campaign to cut, a cheaper tool with a solid click model and a post-purchase survey will make the same calls. If two or three of them were about YouTube, CTV, or upper-funnel video, the gap matters, and the cheaper tool should be paired with periodic holdout tests.

One cost that never shows up on a pricing page is the switch itself. A new tool starts from the day its pixel goes live, so you lose the year-over-year view inside that tool, and you will spend a few weeks reconciling its numbers with the old ones. If you are leaving Northbeam to save money, time the move for a quiet month rather than the run-up to Black Friday, and export the reports you will want for comparison before you cancel.

Picking one

  • Want full multi-touch attribution at a pageview price? ThoughtMetric (our sponsor).
  • Shopify brand focused on customer LTV? Le Pixel by Lebesgue.
  • Want clicks and views modeling and can accept a 12-month term? Triple Whale.
  • Subscription or consumable brand? Wicked Reports.
  • Not ready to pay for attribution yet? GA4, set up properly.

One response to “Cheaper Northbeam alternatives, and what you give up”

  1. Northbeam competitors for Shopify brands – The Ecomm Analyst Avatar

[…] Its competitors fall into three groups: tools that do similar work for less, tools that go further on measurement or reporting, and tools that answer a different question entirely. Here is how I would sort them for a Shopify brand. If cost is the main reason you are looking, I covered that separately in cheaper Northbeam alternatives. […]
