Northbeam is not always an annual contract. Its FAQ describes the Starter plan, listed at $1,500 a month, as month-to-month, usage-based pricing for Shopify brands in the early growth stage. The annual terms apply to Professional and Enterprise, which are where Northbeam points stores on other platforms and larger brands that want flat rates. So the brands who need a no-contract alternative are usually one of two types. A WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento or custom store that cannot use Starter, or a Shopify brand that has outgrown Starter’s limits but does not want to lock in for a year.
If that is you, these five can be run on monthly terms. One note before the list. Triple Whale is the obvious Northbeam competitor, but its paid plans are 12-month subscriptions, so it does not solve this problem. Only its free plan has no commitment.
1. ThoughtMetric
ThoughtMetric is an e-commerce attribution tool for Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and custom stores, and it bills monthly by default. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.) That covers the non-Shopify case Northbeam’s Starter plan does not. Pricing is based on monthly pageviews, starting at $99 a month for 50,000, with multi-touch attribution, server-side tracking and post-purchase surveys on every plan. An optional annual plan includes two free months. It does not offer view-through modeling or media mix modeling, which are the Northbeam features you give up.
2. Le Pixel by Lebesgue
Le Pixel is billed through the Shopify App Store, listed from $99 a month with tiers by yearly revenue, so uninstalling the app ends the subscription. It is Shopify-only and oriented toward lifetime value. For a Shopify brand priced out of Northbeam Starter, it is a low-commitment option.
3. KnoCommerce
KnoCommerce is a post-purchase survey tool billed monthly with no long-term contract. Starter is $19 a month, Analyst is $119 and Pro is $299. It is not a replacement for Northbeam’s models, but survey answers are one of the better ways to read upper-funnel channels without modeled views, which makes it a useful companion to a click-based tool.
4. Stape
Stape hosts server-side Google Tag Manager on any platform, billed monthly with roughly 20 percent off for annual. Its pricing page lists a free plan up to 10,000 requests, Pro at $20 for 500,000 and Business at $100 for 5 million. Some brands buy Northbeam partly for cleaner conversion data going back to Meta and Google. Stape handles that piece directly, though it does no attribution itself.
5. Google Analytics 4
GA4 is free and has no contract. Its data-driven attribution is a reasonable baseline for search and site traffic and weaker for paid social. Keep it running next to any tool you test.
How to test without committing
Monthly terms only help if you use the first months well. Before setup, write down what the tool has to show you within 60 days to stay. Mine are simple. Attributed orders reconcile with the store within a few percent, and the tool changes at least one budget decision I would otherwise have made. If neither happens, cancel before the setup cost turns into a habit.
Start dates matter too. A tool installed in late October has no history going into Black Friday, when you most want a comparison. January is a cleaner start. Ask every vendor about notice periods and what happens to your data at cancellation, since pixel history does not transfer. More in e-commerce attribution tools with no annual contract and what to check before switching from Northbeam.
