Annual contracts are where attribution tools get expensive in ways the price tag does not show. A tool that takes two months to set up properly and then turns out to be a poor fit can cost you a full year of fees. Brands under $20M usually have good reasons to want flexibility, too: seasonal spend, a channel mix that changes every quarter, or simply not knowing yet whether attribution will change how they make decisions.
Here is where the main tools stand on commitment, based on what their own pricing pages and listings say today. Terms change, so confirm before you sign anything. If you also want to try before paying, e-commerce attribution tools with a free trial is the companion to this post.
One distinction before the list. Monthly billing and no commitment are not the same thing. Some tools bill you every month on a contract that still runs for a year, and the difference only shows up when you try to cancel. Everything below is sorted by the term, not the billing cadence.
1. Northbeam Starter
Northbeam‘s Starter plan is listed from $1,500 a month for brands spending under $1.5 million a year on ads, and it is billed month to month. The higher tiers are quoted, so their terms are part of the negotiation. For a brand that wants modeled view credit without committing to a year, Starter is the cleanest way in, provided the monthly price fits.
2. ThoughtMetric
ThoughtMetric bills monthly by default, with an optional annual plan that includes two free months. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.) Pricing is based on monthly pageviews, starting at $99 a month for 50,000, with every feature on every plan and a free trial before you pay. If you go over your pageview tier two months in a row, it works with you to move up a tier rather than sending a surprise bill. It does not model view-through conversions.
3. Le Pixel by Lebesgue
Le Pixel is billed through the Shopify App Store, listed from $99 a month with a free trial and tiers based on yearly revenue. Because the subscription runs through Shopify, it is tied to the app being installed, which keeps the exit simple. It is Shopify-only and oriented toward lifetime value rather than daily campaign optimization.
4. GA4
GA4 is free and has no contract at all. Its data-driven attribution covers what reaches your site with usable tracking, though it cannot see impressions on Meta or TikTok. It is the baseline every other tool on this list should be checked against, and it costs nothing to keep running after you add a paid tool.
5. Triple Whale, with a 12-month term
Triple Whale is the notable tool that does require commitment. Its pricing page states that Foundation, Automate, and Enterprise are 12-month subscriptions, billed either monthly or annually with two months free on annual. Monthly billing on an annual term is still an annual term, so read the agreement carefully. Its free plan has no commitment and includes first and last click attribution, which is a reasonable way to try the interface before signing.
Tools that only quote through sales, such as Rockerbox and Haus, do not publish their contract terms. I would not assume either way. Ask about minimum term, notice period, and what happens to your data at cancellation in the first call, before anyone sends a proposal.
How to evaluate without a long commitment
Even with monthly billing, the real cost of a wrong tool is setup time and the history you lose when you leave, because pixel data does not transfer between tools. Give any new tool 30 to 60 days running alongside your existing reports before you move budget on its numbers, and decide in advance what it has to show you to earn a place. Mine is simple: its new-customer numbers should reconcile with Shopify within a few percent, and it should change at least one budget decision I would otherwise have made differently.
Timing matters as much as terms. Starting a new tool in October means it has no history for Black Friday, which is when you most want a comparison. A September or January start gives you a clean baseline. I wrote the full checklist in what I check before I trust a new attribution tool’s numbers.
