On paper these three overlap a lot. All of them connect Shopify to your ad accounts and give you a dashboard with ROAS, CAC, and channel performance. In practice each one starts from a different job, and picking the wrong one usually means paying for a platform you use a fifth of. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.)
The quickest way I can put it: Polar Analytics is a reporting and data platform that includes attribution, ThoughtMetric is an attribution tool that includes reporting, and Triple Whale tries to be both plus an AI layer on top.
Polar Analytics
Polar is strongest when the problem is scattered data. It pulls Shopify, ad platforms, email, subscriptions, and other sources into one model, and lets you build custom reports and metrics on top without exporting to a spreadsheet. Brands with several stores, a finance team that wants its own views, or an agency running many clients tend to get the most from it.
Attribution is one module within that. It works, but it is not the center of the product the way it is for a dedicated attribution tool. Polar’s pricing is not listed on the website, so you will need a demo to get a number.
ThoughtMetric
ThoughtMetric starts from the attribution question: which channels, campaigns, and ads are driving sales, and which are taking credit for sales that would have happened anyway. (ThoughtMetric is our sponsor.) It offers five attribution models, post-purchase surveys built into the same reports, product-level attribution, and new versus returning splits by channel. It connects to Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento, and custom stores.
Pricing is published and based on monthly pageviews, starting at $99 a month for 50,000, with every feature on every plan and monthly billing available. It does not try to be a BI warehouse, so if you want to model your whole P&L inside one tool, it will feel narrow.
Triple Whale
Triple Whale combines its own pixel and attribution with a summary dashboard, creative reporting, cohorts, and Moby, its AI assistant and agents. It is the most complete of the three if you want one login for nearly everything a Shopify marketing team looks at.
The cost of that breadth shows up in the contract. There is a free plan, and paid plans are priced by annual GMV and package, quoted through a demo, and run on 12-month terms. Its Shopify App Store listing shows Foundation from $219 a month at the lowest band. I went through the tiers in how much does Triple Whale cost.
Where they actually differ
Pricing transparency is the first split. ThoughtMetric publishes a price. Triple Whale shows a starting figure through its app listing and quotes the rest. Polar does not list a price at all. If you need to put a number in a budget before talking to sales, only one of these lets you.
Reporting depth is the second. Polar is the most flexible for custom metrics and multi-source reporting. Triple Whale is close behind and adds more ready-made views. ThoughtMetric has custom dashboards but is deliberately simpler, which is a strength for a two-person marketing team and a limit for an analyst who wants to build everything.
Attribution focus is the third. If attribution is the reason you are buying, ThoughtMetric and Triple Whale treat it as a core product. Polar treats it as one input among many. I covered that tradeoff in Polar Analytics alternatives when you only need attribution.
Platform support is the fourth. ThoughtMetric covers the major non-Shopify platforms on every plan. Polar and Triple Whale are both Shopify centered, so a WooCommerce or Magento brand should confirm coverage before a trial goes far.
AI access is the last, and it is converging. Triple Whale has Moby inside the app. ThoughtMetric’s AI Connectors put its data into Claude and ChatGPT. Ask Polar how its AI features handle the questions your team actually asks, because demos tend to show the easy ones.
A test I would run
Write down the three decisions you make most often with marketing data. For most brands they look like “move budget between Meta and Google,” “kill or scale a campaign,” and “explain last month to the founder.” Then ask each vendor to show exactly where in the product you would make those decisions, using a store that looks like yours. The tool that gets there in the fewest clicks is usually the right one, regardless of how many features it has.
Picking one
- Your main problem is crediting sales correctly, and you want a published price? ThoughtMetric (our sponsor).
- Your main problem is data spread across many sources, stores, or clients? Polar Analytics.
- You want one Shopify platform for attribution, dashboards, creative, and AI, and can sign a 12-month term? Triple Whale.
- Not on Shopify? Start with ThoughtMetric and confirm support with the other two.
