Polar Analytics alternatives for email and SMS-heavy brands

When email and SMS drive a large share of revenue, the measurement problem changes. Klaviyo reports the revenue it touched, your SMS tool reports its own, the ad platforms report theirs, and the total comes out well above what Shopify shows. Owned channels also mostly sell to people who already bought, so their revenue says more about retention than acquisition.

Polar Analytics has retention features. Its top plan, Analyze, Enrich & Activate, includes a Klaviyo Flow Enricher and a Conversion API enhancer, and its first-party pixel starts on Analyze & Enrich. On the entry plan you are mostly reading what Klaviyo reports. Pricing is not listed on the website. Here are five alternatives that handle owned channels differently.

1. Triple Whale

Triple Whale‘s Foundation plan includes multi-touch attribution through the Triple Pixel, post-purchase surveys, and first-party data activation to Meta, Google, TikTok and Klaviyo, so it covers both the reporting and the send-back. Pricing is based on annual GMV and package, paid plans are 12-month subscriptions, and there is a free plan with first- and last-click.

2. ThoughtMetric

ThoughtMetric is an e-commerce attribution tool for Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and custom stores. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.) Its multi-touch model gives email and SMS partial credit when they appear in a path, instead of the full order they claim in their own dashboards. The more useful view for an owned-channel brand is the split between new and returning customer revenue by channel, because it shows whether email is closing first orders or mostly serving repeat buyers. It also runs “how did you hear about us” surveys. Pricing starts at $99 a month based on pageviews, with every feature on every plan.

3. Lifetimely

Lifetimely answers the question email teams care about most, which is whether customers come back and what they are worth. It covers LTV, cohorts and profit for Shopify. There is a free plan up to 50 orders a month, and paid plans start at $79 a month for up to 500 orders, priced on order volume with a 14-day trial.

4. Klaviyo’s own reporting

You already pay for Klaviyo, so start there. Its attribution settings let you change the conversion window and which interactions count. Tighten it to clicks with a short window and compare the result with what it reported last month. The gap is roughly how much revenue Klaviyo was crediting to people who were going to buy anyway.

5. Northbeam

Northbeam is the stress test. Its default Clicks-Only model removes credit from email, SMS, direct and branded search when another touchpoint exists, so it shows the harshest reasonable view of owned channels. Starter is listed at $1,500 a month for brands spending under $1.5 million a year on ads. Most email-heavy brands will not want it as their only lens, but it is a useful second opinion.

The test that settles it

No tool replaces a holdout. Keep a random slice of the list out of campaigns for four weeks and compare revenue per subscriber. That tells you what email adds, and you can use it to calibrate whichever tool you pick. More in why email revenue is overcounted, measuring SMS revenue without double-counting and what Klaviyo counts as email revenue.

FAQs

Does Polar Analytics deduplicate Klaviyo revenue?

Polar reports data from Klaviyo and your other sources, and its own pixel starts on Analyze & Enrich. Ask in the demo how an order that Klaviyo claims, after a Meta click, is credited on the plan you are quoted.

Why is Klaviyo revenue higher than Shopify revenue?

Each channel credits itself for orders inside its own window, so the same order is counted more than once. If your Klaviyo settings count opens, it also credits people who were already on their way to buying.

Which tool gives email the least credit?

Northbeam’s Clicks-Only model, which removes credit from email and SMS when another touch exists.

What is the best Polar alternative for an email-heavy brand?

It depends on the question. ThoughtMetric, our sponsor, is the lowest-cost way to see email split by new and returning customers. Lifetimely is better for LTV. Triple Whale covers the most in one platform.

Picking one

  • Want attribution plus data sent back to Klaviyo in one platform? Triple Whale.
  • Want to see what email does for new versus returning customers at a low price? ThoughtMetric (our sponsor).
  • Care most about LTV and cohorts? Lifetimely.
  • Not ready to buy anything? Tighten Klaviyo’s attribution settings first.
  • Want the harshest view of owned channels? Northbeam as a second opinion.
