Polar Analytics alternatives with post-purchase surveys

A post-purchase survey is the cheapest check on any attribution model. Pixels see clicks. Customers remember podcasts, friends, TikToks they never clicked and billboards. When the two disagree, the gap is usually where your next budget question lives.

Polar Analytics is a broad analytics platform, and its pricing is not listed on the website. If what you really want is survey answers sitting next to tracked attribution, there are cheaper and more focused ways to get there. Some of these do both, and some are surveys you pair with something else.

1. Triple Whale

Triple Whale includes a standard post-purchase survey on its free plan, and Foundation adds post-purchase surveys alongside multi-touch attribution, so both views sit in one product. Paid plans are priced on annual GMV and package. It is the closest to Polar in breadth.

2. KnoCommerce

KnoCommerce is a dedicated survey tool with benchmarking and an order attribution report on paid plans. Starter is $19 a month with one live survey, Analyst is $119 with integrations, and Pro is $299 with custom audiences. Billing is monthly with a 7-day trial and no long-term contract. It recommends Analyst for brands spending under $100,000 a month on ads.

3. ThoughtMetric

ThoughtMetric is an e-commerce attribution tool for Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and custom stores. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.) It runs “how did you hear about us” customer surveys inside the same product as its multi-touch attribution, so you can compare what buyers say with what the tracking shows without exporting anything. That is the main reason to choose it here: one tool, one order record, two signals. Pricing starts at $99 a month based on pageviews, and surveys are included on every plan.

4. Fairing

Fairing is free up to 200 orders a month, and Core is $49 for 201 to 500 orders, with paid plans scaling by monthly order volume and a 14-day trial. Its Advanced Attribution add-on, from $99 a month, follows up on each answer to resolve the channel, format and exact source. For a brand where “podcast” or “influencer” is a big answer, that follow-up is worth paying for.

5. Zigpoll

Zigpoll has a free plan with 50 responses a month and paid plans from $29, billed monthly or annually. It works on Shopify and also on WordPress, Wix, Webflow and other platforms, which makes it a practical pick for a custom or non-Shopify store that needs a survey.

How I read survey data

I never use survey answers as an attribution model on their own. I use them as a ratio check. If Meta gets 20 percent of tracked credit and 35 percent of survey answers, Meta is probably underrated by the pixel, often because of views. If branded search gets 25 percent of tracked credit and almost no survey mentions, that is expected, because nobody remembers a search. The useful signal is a channel that moves in one source and not the other.

I also split answers by new and returning customers. Returning buyers mostly say they already knew the brand, which is true and not much help for acquisition decisions. The first-order answers are the ones to compare against tracked credit.

Keep the answer list short, put “other” last with a text box, and rotate the order of the rest. More in using post-purchase surveys as a real attribution signal and Triple Whale alternatives with post-purchase surveys.

FAQs

Are post-purchase surveys accurate?

For channels people remember, reasonably. They undercount search and retargeting and overcount memorable channels like podcasts. Use them alongside tracking, not instead of it.

How many answer options should a survey have?

Eight to twelve is plenty. Too many and people pick the first plausible answer. Group small channels and add a free-text “other.”

Does Polar Analytics include a post-purchase survey?

Check Polar’s connector directory for the survey tool you already use. Its pricing is not listed on the website, so confirm what is included in a demo.

Can I use a survey instead of an attribution tool?

At very small scale, a survey plus GA4 is a reasonable start. Once you run several paid channels, you need tracked attribution for campaign-level decisions, and the survey becomes the check.
