Attribution tools for mattress and sleep brands

Mattress and sleep brands break most attribution setups in the same four ways. Order values are high, so buyers research for weeks. Review sites and comparison affiliates sit in the middle of almost every journey. A big share of awareness comes from podcasts, YouTube and TV, which pixels barely see. And trial periods mean an order is not really a sale until the return window closes.

A tool that reads a seven-day click window and gross revenue will tell you a tidy story that is mostly wrong. Here is what I would look for and five tools that fit.

1. Wicked Reports

Wicked Reports is built for long cycles. It offers lifetime lookback and lookforward, credits the original first click however long ago it happened, and has cohort and LTV reports. For a brand where the first touch might be a review-site click a month before purchase, that is the right shape. Measure is $499 a month under $2.5 million in revenue, and Scale at $699 adds API integrations for carts and CRMs.

2. ThoughtMetric

ThoughtMetric is an e-commerce attribution tool for Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and custom stores. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.) Three things fit this category. Its “how did you hear about us” surveys are included on every plan, which is how you see podcast and TV impact. Orders can be broken down by discount code, so podcast codes are easy to compare. And its back-end order connection picks up refunds and cancellations, so trial returns flow into revenue rather than sitting in a separate spreadsheet. Pricing starts at $99 a month based on pageviews, which suits a high-AOV brand with modest traffic.

3. Northbeam

Northbeam offers click windows up to 30 days plus an LTV window, and its view-through models help with YouTube and paid social. Starter is listed at $1,500 a month for brands spending under $1.5 million a year on ads. For a mattress brand spending heavily on paid social to drive review-site research, it is a reasonable choice. More on the high-AOV case in Northbeam alternatives for high-AOV brands.

4. Triple Whale

Triple Whale includes multi-touch attribution with configurable windows, post-purchase surveys and influencer and affiliate tracking on Foundation. Its Enterprise tier adds retail and wholesale data support and marketing mix modeling, which matters for sleep brands that also sell through showrooms or partner retailers. Pricing is based on annual GMV and package.

5. Fairing

Fairing is free up to 200 orders a month, which goes further for a high-AOV brand with low order counts. Its Advanced Attribution add-on, from $99 a month, follows up to resolve the exact source, which helps sort “a podcast” into the specific show and “a review site” into the specific publisher.

Measure on kept orders

The number I care about for a trial-based brand is CAC on kept orders. Take a cohort of orders, wait until the trial window closes, remove returns, then divide acquisition spend by what is left. A channel that looks efficient on gross orders can look very different once returns land, and podcast and review-site buyers often return at different rates than paid social buyers. Report the cohort monthly and accept that the newest numbers are provisional.

FAQs

What attribution window should a mattress brand use?

Longer than default. A 30-day click window is a reasonable starting point, with first-click or lifetime views to see where research began.

Do review-site affiliates deserve credit?

Some. They often sit mid-journey after the buyer already heard of you. Compare their first-touch and last-touch share, and use a survey to see whether buyers name them.

How do I handle trial returns in attribution?

Use a tool that pulls refunds from your store, like ThoughtMetric, our sponsor, and judge channels on cohorts once the trial closes.

How do I measure podcast ads for a sleep brand?

Combine a show-specific code, a vanity URL and a survey question. Codes undercount, surveys catch the rest, and branded search lifts after episodes air confirm the pattern.

Picking one

  • Long research cycles and LTV focus? Wicked Reports.
  • Want surveys, codes and refunds in one tool at a low price? ThoughtMetric (our sponsor).
  • Heavy paid social and video driving research? Northbeam.
  • Also selling through showrooms or retail partners? Triple Whale Enterprise.
  • Want a survey that starts free and can resolve the exact podcast? Fairing.
