Attribution tools for eyewear brands

Eyewear has a funnel most attribution tools were not designed for. A prescription buyer browses frames, tries them on virtually or at home, uploads a prescription or calls an optometrist, and may check insurance before ordering. Sunglasses are simpler but seasonal. Many brands also sell in stores, where online research turns into an offline sale.

The practical result is that the channel that started the journey and the channel that closed it are often days apart, and the middle steps carry a lot of signal. Here is what I would look for and five tools that fit.

1. ThoughtMetric

ThoughtMetric is an e-commerce attribution tool for Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and custom stores. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.) The most relevant evidence is from a customer in this category. SportRx, which has made custom prescription sports eyewear for more than twenty years, says it uses ThoughtMetric to see how mid-funnel traffic from its ad campaigns leads to bottom-funnel conversions, and to measure affiliate partner sessions and the conversions those links influence. Before that, it was piecing journeys together from Google Analytics, ad platforms and its ERP. Pricing starts at $99 a month based on pageviews, with surveys and every other feature on every plan.

2. Triple Whale

Triple Whale includes the Triple Pixel, multi-touch attribution, post-purchase surveys and influencer and affiliate tracking on Foundation. Its Automate plan adds path and funnel analysis and custom events, which is where you would track try-on and prescription steps. Pricing is based on annual GMV and package.

3. Northbeam

Northbeam is a fit for a fashion-led sunglasses brand that spends heavily on paid social, where its view-through models help credit visual ads that people do not click. Starter is listed at $1,500 a month for brands spending under $1.5 million a year on ads, and it is limited to Shopify. Professional, at $3,500, works with any e-commerce platform.

4. KnoCommerce

KnoCommerce catches what tracking cannot, such as an optometrist recommendation, a friend’s frames or a store visit. Starter is $19 a month and Analyst is $119 with integrations, billed monthly with a 7-day trial. Add “my eye doctor” and “saw them in a store” as answer options, because for eyewear they are real channels.

5. Google Analytics 4

GA4 is free and the easiest place to build the funnel itself. Fire events for try-on started, try-on completed, prescription uploaded and insurance checked, then compare conversion rates by source. You will not get trustworthy channel credit from it, but you will see which sources send people who get through the hard steps.

Treat try-on as a conversion

For prescription eyewear, I report a leading indicator next to orders: completed try-ons or prescription uploads by channel. It moves faster than orders, it is less noisy at low volume, and it tells you earlier whether a new campaign is attracting serious buyers. Home try-on programs deserve the same treatment, since the try-on box is the real first commitment.

FAQs

How do you attribute home try-on orders?

Track the try-on request as its own conversion with the source attached, then link the eventual order to it. Judge channels on both try-on volume and try-on to purchase rate.

Does virtual try-on affect attribution?

It adds a mid-funnel step that tools can record as an event. Make sure it does not open in a separate domain or app that breaks the session.

How do eyewear brands measure in-store sales from online ads?

With a survey at checkout in store, POS data matched to email or phone, and regional comparisons when you change spend. No tool tracks it perfectly.

What is the best attribution tool for an eyewear brand?

It depends on spend and stack. ThoughtMetric, our sponsor, has a prescription eyewear customer on record and is the lowest-priced paid attribution tool on this list. Heavy paid social spenders may prefer Northbeam.
