Attribution tools for supplement brands

Supplement brands deal with an unusual mix of measurement problems. Meta and Google restrict how you can advertise and what you can claim, which pushes more spend into creators and content that is hard to track. Subscriptions mean the first order is the least important one. And a meaningful share of people who discover you on your site or in an ad end up buying on Amazon, where your Shopify pixel cannot see them. Here are five tools and how each fits.

1. ThoughtMetric

ThoughtMetric splits revenue and customer acquisition cost by new and returning customers for every channel, which is the view supplement brands need when subscription reorders would otherwise inflate a channel’s ROAS. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.) It tracks podcasts, influencers, and affiliates by UTM or discount code, includes post-purchase surveys on every plan, and lets you set the lookback window up to 90 days. It tracks your own store, not Amazon, so Amazon sales driven by your ads will not show up in its reports. Its pricing is based on monthly pageviews, starting at $99 a month.

2. Triple Whale

Triple Whale covers subscription cohorts, LTV, and attribution in one Shopify workspace, which suits supplement brands that want one place for retention and acquisition numbers. Paid plans are quoted on 12-month terms and scale with GMV, with Foundation from $219 a month on its Shopify App Store listing at the lowest band. I covered subscription-specific options in Triple Whale alternatives for subscription brands.

3. Wicked Reports

Wicked Reports credits the original first click no matter how long ago it happened and organizes its reporting around customer lifetime value. For a supplement brand where a customer’s value shows up over six or twelve months of reorders, that framing fits well. Plans are covered in how much Wicked Reports costs.

4. Hyros

Hyros fits supplement brands that sell through long-form funnels: advertorials, quizzes, email sequences, and upsell flows. That is a common model in the category, and Hyros was built for journeys with steps between click and order. It does not publish prices. If you sell mainly from a standard Shopify product page, you will use only a fraction of it. If quizzes are part of your funnel, read how to measure quiz funnel conversions on Shopify before trusting the quiz app’s revenue number.

5. Fairing

Fairing adds a post-purchase survey tied to order and lifetime value. Supplement buyers often come from podcasts and creators you cannot track by click, and a survey is the cheapest way to see that. It pairs with any tool above.

The Amazon blind spot

None of the site-based tools on this list can tell you how many Amazon orders your Meta ads drove. Shopify-based attribution measures what happens on your store. If Amazon is a large share of revenue, track total revenue across both channels against total ad spend, and watch whether Amazon sales move when you change Meta or TikTok budgets. A simple on-off test by region or by week will tell you more than any dashboard. Amazon’s own attribution program measures ad clicks you send straight to your Amazon listings, not shoppers who visit your site first and buy on Amazon later.

What to set up first

Report new customer ROAS, not blended ROAS. Subscription reorders land in whatever channel the tool credits, and they will make your retention channels look like acquisition channels. Most tools can split it, and tracking Meta ads properly gets much easier once you do.

Expect gaps from ad policy. If parts of your message cannot run as paid ads, they are probably running through creators, podcasts, and content. Survey answers and code redemptions are your best signal there.

Look at payback, not first-order margin. A supplement customer who costs $60 to acquire and reorders monthly at $40 is worth a lot more than first-order ROAS suggests. Decide your acceptable payback period, then judge channels against it.

Annotate creative changes made for policy reasons. When you rewrite ads or landing pages to get through review, performance often shifts for reasons that have nothing to do with the channel. If you do not write down when that happened, a drop in Meta results a week later will look like the channel getting worse. A dated note on every policy-driven change saves a lot of bad budget calls.
