Northbeam alternatives for subscription brands

Northbeam is built for paid media teams optimizing ads day to day, and its strength is crediting first orders across channels, including views. Subscription brands care about a different number. A customer acquired at a $60 CAC who renews for eight months is a great buy, one who cancels after the first box is not, and a first-order ROAS view treats them the same. Northbeam’s Starter plan is listed at $1,500 a month with month-to-month billing for Shopify brands, and Professional is $3,500 a month on annual terms.

For a subscription brand, the tool needs to tie renewals back to the original source, show cohorts by acquisition channel, and handle your subscription app’s data cleanly. These four do that in different ways. The broader LTV angle is covered in Northbeam alternatives for LTV and cohort analysis.

1. Wicked Reports

Wicked Reports is the closest fit on paper. It credits repeat purchases back to the original source with lifetime lookback and lookforward, includes cohort and LTV reports on every plan, and detects subscription sales and repeat buyers automatically. It also has a page aimed specifically at subscription brands. Pricing follows annual revenue bands, and up to $2.5M, Measure is $499 a month, Scale is $699, and Maximize is $999. The trade is a heavier setup than a Shopify-first app.

2. ThoughtMetric

ThoughtMetric pairs multi-touch attribution with customer analytics for loyalty and LTV, so you can see which channels bring customers who come back. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.) Post-purchase surveys are included, which helps subscription brands that grow through referrals and creators. Pricing is based on monthly pageviews, starting at $99 a month for 50,000, with every feature on every plan and monthly billing. Before you commit, check how renewal orders from your subscription app appear in its reports, since that is where subscription data most often gets messy in any tool. ThoughtMetric also publishes a Northbeam comparison.

3. Lifetimely

Lifetimely, now part of AMP, is an LTV and profit tool rather than an attribution platform, and for many subscription brands that is the half Northbeam was missing. It offers predictive LTV, cohorts and segmentation, and a daily profit and loss view. Pricing is based on monthly Shopify order volume, with a free plan up to 50 orders, S at $79 a month up to 500 orders, M at $149 up to 3,000, and L at $299 up to 7,000, with all features on every plan. Pair it with a lighter attribution tool and you cover most of what a subscription brand needs.

4. Triple Whale

Triple Whale integrates with Recharge and Skio, so subscription data comes in alongside its pixel and attribution. It suits brands that want one Shopify platform for attribution, cohorts, and dashboards. Its pricing page asks you to book a demo, price is set by annual GMV and package, and paid plans are 12-month subscriptions. Its Shopify App Store listing shows Foundation from $219 a month. I covered Triple Whale’s own fit in Triple Whale alternatives for subscription brands.

The subscription numbers worth tracking

Whichever tool you pick, I watch three numbers by acquisition channel each month. The first is the share of first orders that convert to a second charge, which tells you quickly whether a channel brings real subscribers or discount hunters. The second is 90-day revenue per customer, because most subscription churn happens in the first few cycles and 90 days is long enough to see it. The third is CAC payback in months. A channel with a worse first-order ROAS can easily win on all three.

Data hygiene matters more for subscription brands than almost anyone. Make sure your tool separates the first subscription order from renewals, keeps renewal orders out of new customer counts, and handles skipped or paused orders sensibly. If renewals get counted as new purchases from direct, every channel’s ROAS looks worse and direct looks like your best channel. In the first week of any trial, pick ten known subscribers and trace their orders through the tool. If the trace does not match, fix it before reading any channel report.

Discount-heavy acquisition deserves extra scrutiny. A first box at half off can make a channel look cheap on CAC while the cohort cancels at the first full-price charge. Splitting cohorts by the offer they came in on, not just the channel, catches this before it eats a quarter’s budget.

Finally, give new channels time. A creator campaign that looks weak at 30 days can look strong at 120 if those subscribers stick. Set the review date before you launch, so a slow start does not get the channel cut before its cohort has had a chance to renew.
