Growing stores, one honest take at a time.

Polar Analytics alternatives for Shopify brands under $10M

Polar Analytics is a business intelligence platform first. It offers a governed data layer with custom metrics, a long list of connectors including marketplaces, multi-store views, attribution, and an AI assistant on top. Pricing is not listed on the website, so you will need a demo to get a number. For a brand with several stores, an Amazon business, and a finance team asking for reconciled reports, that depth is the point.

For a single-store Shopify brand under $10M with a lean team, the question is different. You probably need reliable answers to three things: which ads bring in new customers, what those customers are worth, and whether the business is profitable after ad spend. These five answer those questions with less setup, and all of them publish a price.

1. ThoughtMetric

ThoughtMetric covers the attribution question with a published price. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.) It offers five attribution models with a configurable lookback window, post-purchase surveys folded into the attribution, server-side tracking, a conversion API back to Meta and Google, and reporting split by new and returning customers down to product and SKU. Pricing starts at $99 a month for 50,000 monthly pageviews, with every feature on every plan, monthly billing, and a 14-day trial. It is not a BI layer, so reports that combine marketing with inventory or finance data need another tool.

2. Lifetimely

Lifetimely by AMP covers the other two questions: LTV and profit. It builds cohort tables and a daily profit and loss view that subtracts product, shipping, and ad costs from revenue. Pricing is based on monthly orders: free up to 50, $79 a month up to 500, $149 up to 3,000, and $299 up to 7,000, with a 14-day trial on paid plans. For many brands under $10M, Lifetimely plus an attribution tool replaces most of what they were evaluating Polar for.

3. Triple Whale

Triple Whale is the broadest option at this size. Its free plan includes its pixel, first and last click attribution, a standard post-purchase survey, and a 12-month lookback for up to 10 users. Foundation adds multi-touch attribution, cohorts, custom dashboards, and a SQL editor. Foundation is listed at $219 a month on its Shopify listing, actual pricing depends on annual GMV, and its pricing page says paid plans are 12-month subscriptions. The price rises with GMV, which is worth modeling before you commit to a year.

4. KnoCommerce

KnoCommerce is the cheapest real signal on this list. Post-purchase surveys capture word of mouth, podcasts, and influencer traffic that no pixel sees, and at this stage those sources are often a bigger share of new customers than founders assume. Starter is $19 a month, Analyst is $119, and Pro is $299, all billed monthly with no long-term contract and a 7-day trial.

5. Shopify’s built-in analytics

Shopify’s own reports are free and cover sales, sessions, conversion, and marketing performance by channel and UTM. They will not reconcile ad spend across platforms or give you a model you can tune, but for a store under about $1M, clean UTMs plus Shopify reports plus a survey answers most budget questions. Start here, and buy a tool when you can name the question Shopify cannot answer.

What you give up versus Polar

The honest trade is the data layer. Polar lets you define a metric once, like contribution margin or new-customer CAC, and use the same definition everywhere, across sources that most attribution tools never touch. When you outgrow the stack above, it is usually because of one of three events: you open a second store or market, you start selling on Amazon at real volume, or someone in finance starts asking why the marketing report and the P and L disagree. Until one of those happens, a lighter stack is usually the better buy. A reasonable version is an attribution tool, a profit and LTV app, and a survey, which together usually cost less per month than a single BI seat and can each be swapped out on their own when one stops fitting.

Setup time is the other hidden cost. A BI platform is only as useful as the reports someone builds and maintains in it, and at this size that someone is usually the founder. Count the hours as part of the price. If you only need attribution, the narrower comparison is in Polar Analytics alternatives when you only need attribution, and the full field is in Polar Analytics competitors.

Picking one

  • Need multi-touch attribution with a published price and a trial? ThoughtMetric (our sponsor).
  • Need LTV and daily profit priced on orders? Lifetimely.
  • Want one platform for attribution, cohorts, and dashboards, and fine with a 12-month term? Triple Whale.
  • Lots of word of mouth or podcast sales? KnoCommerce.
  • Under about $1M and still finding your channels? Shopify’s own reports with clean UTMs.
