Northbeam has a firm opinion about Google. Its default Clicks-Only model, per its docs, excludes bottom-funnel touchpoints including branded search, direct, email and SMS from credit. For a Meta-heavy brand that is a healthy correction. For a brand that spends most of its budget on Search, Shopping and Performance Max, it can leave a large share of Google revenue sitting in a bucket that gets no credit, which makes the biggest channel the hardest one to manage.
Add Starter at $1,500 a month, described as month-to-month for Shopify brands, and a Google-first brand has fair reason to compare. These five read Google spend differently.
The short version
| Tool | What it does for Google-heavy brands | Starting price |
|---|---|---|
| GA4 | Native Google Ads link, data-driven attribution by default | Free |
| Polar Analytics | Conversion API to Google Ads, lift tests on Google campaigns | Not listed on the website |
| Wicked Reports | First-click credit for the non-brand search that started the journey | $499 a month |
| ThoughtMetric (sponsor) | Google next to every channel, each order credited once, model switching | $99 a month |
| Triple Whale | Google Ads connection with multi-touch on paid plans | GMV-based, 12-month terms |
1. Google Analytics 4
GA4 is free, links directly to Google Ads and uses data-driven attribution by default. For a Google-heavy brand it is a stronger baseline than it is for a Meta-heavy one, since most paid traffic arrives through clicks it can see. Its weak spot is grading Google’s own work. It tends to be generous to Google channels, so use it beside something independent rather than as the final word.
2. Polar Analytics
Polar Analytics lists Google Ads as a one-click connector and sells two things a Google-first brand may want. Advertising Signals sends conversion events to Google Ads through its conversion API, and incrementality testing can run lift tests on Google campaigns with a dedicated data scientist. A lift test on brand search answers the cannibalization question directly, which no model can. Polar’s pricing is not listed on the website.
3. Wicked Reports
Wicked Reports credits the original first click however long ago it happened. If a customer first arrived from a non-brand search and came back through brand search three weeks later, the first visit gets its due. That is a different fix from Northbeam’s, which removes brand search from credit rather than handing credit back to the search that started things. Under $2.5 million in annual revenue, Measure is $499 a month, Scale is $699 and Maximize is $999.
4. ThoughtMetric
ThoughtMetric is an e-commerce attribution tool for Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and custom stores. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.) It reports Google campaigns next to every other channel with each order credited once, splits results into new and returning customers, and sends conversion data back to Google and Meta. Switching between first touch, last touch and its multi-touch model on the same orders shows how much brand search is closing sales other channels started. Pricing starts at $99 a month based on pageviews.
5. Triple Whale
Triple Whale connects Google Ads alongside its other channels. Its free plan includes first and last click attribution, and multi-touch starts on paid plans priced by annual GMV and package on 12-month terms. Its product grew up around Meta-heavy Shopify brands, so check how its models treat brand search before assuming it reads Google the way you do.
Reading Google spend honestly
Split brand from non-brand everywhere, including in Performance Max, which blends search, Shopping, YouTube and display unless you separate brand terms. A blended Google ROAS that includes brand search will look healthier than the channel is, because people who type your name were going to find you.
Then test brand search once. Cut brand bids in a set of regions for a few weeks and watch total sales there. If revenue barely moves, much of that spend was buying sales you already had. More in is Google Ads reported ROAS accurate, do attribution tools work with Performance Max and Triple Whale alternatives for Google Ads-heavy brands.
FAQs
Does Northbeam give credit to branded search?
Not in its default Clicks-Only model, which excludes branded search, direct, email and SMS from credit. Its other models treat touchpoints differently, so check which one your reports use.
Is GA4 good enough for a Google-heavy brand?
It is a solid free baseline, since it sees Google clicks well. Its blind spot is that it grades Google’s own channels, so pair it with an independent tool or a holdout test before moving large budgets.
How do I know if brand search is cannibalizing organic sales?
Run a geo test. Pause or cut brand bids in some regions for three to four weeks and compare total sales with the regions you left alone. A lift test through a tool like Polar Analytics does the same with more rigor.
Which attribution model works best for Google Shopping?
Compare first touch and last touch on the same orders. Shopping often starts journeys for new customers, so if it looks much better on first touch, a last-click view is underselling it. ThoughtMetric, this site’s sponsor, and GA4 both let you switch models on the same data.
