Attribution tools for beauty and skincare brands

Beauty and skincare brands break attribution in three specific ways. Discovery happens through creators, often on TikTok or Instagram, where nobody clicks. Repeat purchase is the business model, so first-order ROAS undersells good channels. And promo codes travel far beyond the creator they were made for. Here is how five tools handle that, and what to set up regardless of which you pick.

1. Triple Whale

Triple Whale is common in beauty because so much of the category is Shopify and paid-social heavy. Its creative reporting lets you compare ad performance side by side, and its dashboard covers cohorts and repeat rate alongside attribution. Paid plans are quoted on 12-month terms and scale with GMV, and its Shopify App Store listing shows Foundation from $219 a month at the lowest band. More options built around creative are in Triple Whale alternatives for creative analytics.

2. ThoughtMetric

ThoughtMetric tracks influencers and affiliates by UTM parameter or discount code, so a creator’s code can be its own channel in your reports instead of a line in a spreadsheet. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.) It includes post-purchase surveys on every plan, which matters in a category where a large share of buyers first saw you in a video they never clicked. It also reports new and returning customer revenue separately. Its pricing is based on monthly pageviews, starting at $99 a month.

3. Polar Analytics

Polar Analytics suits beauty brands that want flexible reporting across Shopify, ads, email, and subscriptions, with attribution as part of a broader analytics layer. Its pricing is not listed on the website, so you will need a demo for a number. It fits teams that want to build their own views of retention and LTV by product line.

4. Northbeam

Northbeam becomes relevant once a beauty brand is spending heavily across Meta, TikTok, YouTube, and Google and wants modeled view-through reporting for the video-first channels. Its pricing page lists Starter from $1,500 a month, with price depending on data volume. Below that spend level it is usually more than you need.

5. Fairing

Fairing is not an attribution platform, but beauty is the category where a dedicated post-purchase survey earns its keep. It asks buyers how they heard about you, ties the answer to the order and the customer’s lifetime value, and can send responses to other tools. I compared survey options in Shopify attribution tools with post-purchase surveys.

What to set up first

Give every creator a unique code and a unique link, and expect the code to leak to coupon sites within weeks. Codes still tell you something, but treat code revenue as an upper bound on what the creator drove, not a measurement.

Ask the survey question about discovery, not purchase. “How did you first hear about us?” catches the TikTok video. “What made you buy?” catches the retargeting ad your pixel already saw. Include named creators as options once any one of them is big enough to budget for.

Judge channels on 60 or 90-day revenue, not first order. A serum customer acquired at a loss who reorders three times is a good customer. Most tools on this list can split new and returning revenue by channel. Use it before you cut a channel that looks expensive on day one.

Watch TikTok Shop separately. Orders placed inside TikTok never touch your site, so site-based tools cannot attribute them, and the halo from TikTok content shows up as direct and branded search on your store. Read both together.

Keep a calendar of big creator posts. When a video takes off organically, your direct and branded search traffic jumps the same week, and no attribution tool will connect the two on its own. A shared sheet with the date, creator, and platform of every major post lets you explain those spikes later instead of crediting whatever ad happened to be running. It also helps when you decide which creators to bring back, because you can line up their post dates against new customer orders and survey answers that name them.

Picking one

  • Paid-social heavy and want creative and cohort reporting in one place? Triple Whale.
  • Want creators as tracked channels plus surveys at a pageview price? ThoughtMetric (our sponsor).
  • Want flexible retention and LTV reporting across many sources? Polar Analytics.
  • Large spend across video channels and want modeled views? Northbeam.
  • Already have attribution and need a better discovery signal? Add Fairing.
