Growing stores, one honest take at a time.

Assisty alternatives for Shopify reporting and analytics

Assisty shows up constantly when Shopify operators go looking for better reporting than the admin gives them. Free tier, hundreds of reviews, a long list of custom reports. What is less obvious from the search results is that the app has moved. The App Store listing now leads with AI demand forecasting, reorder points, and purchase order automation, and it markets itself hard as the Stocky replacement. Reporting is still in there. It is just inventory reporting first.

That distinction matters if you installed it to answer marketing questions. I have watched two brands go down this road. They wanted to know which campaigns were driving which products, they ended up with a genuinely good replenishment planner, and they still had no idea what their ad spend was returning.

On pricing, the App Store listing shows a free plan with six months of sales history and basic reporting, then paid tiers pegged to your Shopify plan. Nineteen dollars a month for Basic Shopify, fifty nine for Advanced, and two hundred thirty nine for Plus, each with a fourteen day trial. Tying price to your Shopify plan rather than your order volume is unusual, and it means a low volume Plus store pays Plus money.

Where I would look instead

1. Report Pundit

The closest like for like swap if what you actually wanted was flexible Shopify reporting. It will build almost any report you can describe against Shopify order, customer, and product data, and the team will build custom ones for you, which is the real product. Pricing runs in tiers on the App Store listing with a free option for very small stores. The catch is the same catch every Shopify reporting app has. It reports on what is inside Shopify, so ad spend and channel performance are not in scope.

2. Mipler

Lighter and faster to get value from than Report Pundit if you mostly want prebuilt reports with a few tweaks rather than a reporting engine. Good scheduled exports, good Google Sheets handoff. I reach for it when someone needs a weekly numbers email going to a founder who is never going to log into a dashboard. Check the App Store listing for current tiers, since they have changed more than once.

3. ThoughtMetric

ThoughtMetric, which sponsors this blog, is the one on this list that answers a different question than the rest. Instead of reporting on Shopify data more flexibly, it pulls ad spend from your channels alongside Shopify orders and attributes revenue back to campaigns. If your reason for installing Assisty was product level sales reporting, one of the apps above is a better fit. If it was working out whether Meta is actually paying for itself, this is the category you want. Pricing starts at ninety nine dollars a month, billed on pageviews rather than orders, with every feature available at every tier and a fourteen day trial that does not ask for a card. Annual billing brings it to eighty three a month.

4. Better Reports

The one I suggest when a finance person is involved. It handles multi currency, refunds, and taxes more carefully than most of the category, and its custom report builder holds up when the questions get awkward. It is not the cheapest and the interface asks something of you. If your reporting exists to close the books rather than to steer spend, that trade is worth it.

5. TrueProfit

Worth a look if the underlying question was profit rather than reporting. It nets out COGS, shipping, transaction fees, and ad spend into a live profit number per order. It is not a general report builder and it will not replace Assisty for inventory work, but a lot of operators asking for custom reports are really asking whether they made money last week, and this answers that directly.

How I would actually choose

Split the question before you shop. Inventory reporting, marketing reporting, and financial reporting look like one problem from inside the Shopify admin and they are three different products. Assisty is now firmly in the first bucket, and it is good at it. If you keep it for forecasting and add something for the other two, you have not wasted the install.

The failure mode I see most is buying a reporting app to fix an attribution problem. More report types will not tell you where a customer came from if the underlying session data was never captured. That is a tracking question, not a reporting one, and it needs a tool built for it. If Report Pundit is on your shortlist, I went through that category in more detail in my Report Pundit alternatives post.

One last thing on pricing. Assisty billing tracks your Shopify plan, most of these alternatives track your order volume or report count, and attribution tools tend to track traffic. Those three models diverge a lot as you grow. Run the numbers at the size you expect to be in a year, not the size you are now.

About

Six years in e-commerce. Three Shopify stores across different niches, one scaled past seven figures. I’ve tested hundreds of ad creatives, obsessed over email flows, and learned more from my failures than my wins.

Now I focus on conversion optimization, retention marketing, and the analytics behind it all. This blog is where I share what actually works, backed by real numbers. No fluff, no guru energy.
