Growing stores, one honest take at a time.

Report Toaster alternatives for Shopify custom reporting

Report Toaster is one of the better Shopify reporting apps, and most people looking to replace it are not unhappy with the product. They have either hit a plan tier they did not expect, or realized the reports they want are marketing questions rather than store questions. Two different problems, two different answers.

Worth pinning down what Report Toaster costs first, because almost every comparison article I checked had it wrong. From the App Store listing, there is a free plan for stores on Basic or Grow that gives you the last 90 days of order history and the standard prebuilt reports. Paid tiers are $18 per month for Basic and Grow stores, $60 per month for Advanced, and $150 per month for Plus, with a 14-day trial on the paid plans. The tier you land on is set by your Shopify plan, not by your usage, which is the part that surprises people when they upgrade Shopify and the app bill moves too.

That plan-linked model is common across this category, so comparing headline prices only works at the same Shopify tier.

1. Report Pundit

The closest like-for-like swap and the cheapest serious option. Free below 1,000 lifetime orders, then $9 per month on Basic, $19 per month on Grow, and $35 per month on Advanced, with a 14-day trial. At the Advanced tier that is $35 against Report Toaster’s $60 for broadly comparable custom reporting.

You get unlimited custom reports, calculated fields, multi-store and multi-currency consolidation, and integrations out to payment, shipping, and marketing apps. The free report setup service is the thing I would actually use. Describing what you want to a support person beats learning any report builder, and Report Pundit, Better Reports, and Mipler all offer some version of it. I cover the trade-offs in more depth in my Report Pundit alternatives writeup.

2. Better Reports

The most expensive app in this group and the one I would still pick for genuinely complicated reporting. Pricing runs $19.90 per month on Basic, $39.90 on Grow, $149.90 on Advanced, and $299.90 on Plus, with a 14-day trial and no free plan.

At the Advanced and Plus tiers you are paying roughly two and a half times what Report Toaster charges, so the reporting has to be worth it. It is if you are doing pivot-table style analysis with custom fields, metrics, and formulas across tags, metafields, and attributes. The reviews that stand out are consistently about the support team building complex reports on request within hours. If your reporting need is a handful of scheduled exports, this is overkill.

3. Mipler

Mipler restructured its plans recently, so ignore any comparison written before this year. Current pricing on the listing is a free plan below 1,000 lifetime orders with access to 100+ prebuilt reports, then Basic at $19.99 per month and Pro at $29.99 per month, with those figures quoted for stores on the Basic Shopify plan and a 7-day trial.

Basic gets you up to ten custom reports, scheduled emails, Google Sheets export, and the AI features. Pro adds unlimited custom reports, multi-store reporting, and team access controls. It sits between Report Pundit and Better Reports on both price and depth, and the free tier is more useful than most because it includes the full prebuilt library rather than a crippled sample.

4. ThoughtMetric

Worth naming the case where none of the above is the answer. If the reports you keep trying to build are about which ads produced which orders, no Shopify reporting app will get you there, because the order data in Shopify does not contain a reliable record of what the customer saw before they bought. You can build a beautiful report on incomplete data and it will still be incomplete.

ThoughtMetric, which sponsors this blog, is an attribution platform rather than a report builder, priced at $99 per month with every feature available at every tier, billed on pageviews rather than seats, with a 14-day free trial. Tracking is a single async pixel plus server-side tagging. At $99 it is more expensive than every app on this list except Better Reports at the top tiers, and it will not produce your tax report or your inventory aging report. If your reporting gap is marketing rather than operations, that is the trade you are making.

5. Shopify’s built-in reports

Included in what you already pay, and I mention it because a meaningful share of stores install a reporting app to solve a problem the native reports handle. Report depth scales with your Shopify plan, and on Advanced and Plus the built-in reporting is more capable than most people assume.

Where it runs out is custom calculated fields, metafield and tag data, multi-store consolidation, and scheduled delivery. Those are real limits and they are why this category exists. But spend twenty minutes in the reports section before you spend $60 a month. I have watched operators pay to rebuild a report that already existed.

The honest summary

Leaving Report Toaster on price alone points to Report Pundit. Leaving because the reporting is not deep enough points to Better Reports. Leaving because you cannot answer marketing questions means you are in the wrong category entirely, and no report builder is going to fix that.
