Databox alternatives for KPI dashboards and reporting

Databox is a KPI dashboard tool. It pulls metrics from Shopify, GA4, your ad accounts, Klaviyo, and dozens of other sources into one place so you can stop screenshotting numbers into a slide every Monday. The free plan covers 3 data sources and one dashboard, and the paid tiers start at $159 a month for Pro, climbing to around $399 for Growth and custom beyond that. The pricing wrinkle most people miss is that it bills by data source, where each account or property counts separately, so connecting three GA4 properties uses three of your three included sources before you have added anything else.

That per-source model is the usual reason operators go looking. Here are five dashboard tools worth comparing, plus a note at the end on when a dashboard is not the thing you actually need.

Klipfolio

Klipfolio (the Klips product) is the option for teams that want formula-level control over how every metric is calculated and displayed. It starts around $90 a month with unlimited users, and the tiers are gated mostly by how many dashboards you can build and how often data refreshes, up to roughly $350 a month for the Team plan.

The catch is the add-on stacking. White-label, faster refresh, and extra dashboards are all separate line items, and reviewers consistently flag that the real bill runs well above the headline plan. It is powerful, but it has a learning curve and rewards people who like to tinker.

Geckoboard

Geckoboard is built for one job: putting a clean KPI dashboard on a TV so the whole team sees the same numbers. There is no permanent free plan, just a 14-day trial, and the entry Essential tier is about $60 a month. Watch the unit pricing, because every dashboard, editor, or viewer beyond your plan’s allowance is another $25 a month each, which adds up fast for a growing team.

If you want a simple wallboard and nothing more, it is the easiest tool here to live with. If you need deep analysis or client reporting, it is too narrow.

Whatagraph

Whatagraph is aimed squarely at agencies that need polished, white-labeled client reports. There is a free tier with 5 source credits, and paid plans start around $229 a month on annual billing, scaling to about $463 and then custom. Like Databox, it prices by data source, so one client running GA4 plus Meta plus Google Ads burns three credits.

It produces the best-looking reports in this group, which matters if reports are a deliverable you charge for. Paid plans require annual billing, so it is a real commitment rather than a casual try.

AgencyAnalytics

AgencyAnalytics is the value pick against both Databox and Whatagraph for client work. It starts around $59 to $79 a month, prices by number of clients rather than data sources, allows monthly billing, and includes 80-plus integrations on every plan. For an in-house team it is more reporting horsepower than you need, but for anyone managing several clients the per-client model is usually cheaper and easier to forecast.

The common complaints are occasional connector instability and thinner data-blending than Klipfolio, so test it against your actual sources first.

Looker Studio

Looker Studio is free, connects natively to GA4 and Google Ads, and can pull Shopify and other sources through third-party connectors. If your reporting needs are modest and you have someone willing to build the dashboards, it covers a lot of what people pay Databox for at no cost.

The trade-off is setup effort and the fact that non-Google connectors often carry their own monthly fee. It is the right starting point before you decide a paid dashboard is worth it.

One thing a dashboard will not fix

Worth saying plainly, because it is the mistake I see most: a dashboard only displays the numbers you feed it. If your channel revenue does not tie out to Shopify, prettier visualizations will not fix that, they will just make the wrong numbers easier to read. If the underlying problem is attribution rather than presentation, a tool like ThoughtMetric, which reconciles cross-channel revenue and starts at $99 a month for 50,000 pageviews, solves a different problem than any dashboard on this list. Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site. Plenty of stores need both, but be honest about which gap you are actually closing before you pay for either.

Picking between these

  • If you manage multiple clients and want predictable pricing, AgencyAnalytics is usually the cheapest and easiest to forecast.
  • If report aesthetics are part of what you sell, Whatagraph produces the best-looking output, at a price.
  • If you want formula-level control and do not mind a learning curve, Klipfolio is the most flexible, but budget for the add-ons.
  • If you just want KPIs on an office TV, Geckoboard is the simplest, as long as you stay inside your seat and dashboard limits.
  • If budget is tight and you have someone to build it, start with Looker Studio before paying for anything.
  • If your numbers do not reconcile in the first place, fix attribution before you invest in any dashboard.
