The Case for Plugging Your Marketing Tools Into AI

If you’ve been anywhere near Claude, ChatGPT, or really any AI tool in the last few months, you’ve probably seen the word “connector” pop up.

AI connectors let your AI tools talk directly to the other software you already use. Your email platform. Your ad accounts. Your attribution data. I’m in Claude working on next week’s ad budget. I type ‘what was my ROAS by channel last week’ and ThoughtMetric’s data is right there in the conversation.

The technology behind most of this is called MCP, or Model Context Protocol. Anthropic built it as an open standard, and it’s basically become the USB port of AI. One universal way for AI to plug into your tools without needing custom code for every single integration.

In practice, it means you can sit in Claude, type “what was my ROAS on Meta last month,” and get a real answer pulled from your actual data.

Here’s what I’ve actually found useful:

Pulling performance snapshots without opening a dashboard. I used to start every morning logging into three or four platforms. Now I ask Claude to give me yesterday’s numbers and I get a summary in 30 seconds.

Asking “why” questions across tools. This is where it gets interesting. When your AI can see your attribution data, you can ask things like “which campaigns drove the most new customers last week” and get an answer.

Catching things I would have missed. I’m not going to pretend AI is finding hidden gold every day. But when you can casually ask “anything unusual in last week’s numbers?” and it flags that your CPA on one campaign doubled, that’s genuinely useful. I might not have caught that until weekly report time.

A Few Things I’ve Learned Along the Way

Start with one connector, not five. It’s tempting to connect everything at once. For me I picked ThoughtMetric, because I was checking attribution numbers multiple times a day.

Be specific with your questions. AI connectors work best when you ask clear questions. “How’s my marketing doing?” is going to give you a vague answer. “What was my Meta CPA for prospecting campaigns last week compared to the week before?” is going to give you something you can act on.

Don’t expect magic, expect convenience. Connectors aren’t going to rewrite your marketing strategy. They’re going to save you 30-60 minutes a day of dashboard-hopping. Over a month, you’re getting back a full work day or more.

Where This Is All Heading

MCP specifically is getting adopted fast. Zapier has an MCP server that connects to 8,000+ apps, ActiveCampaign was one of the first marketing platforms in Claude’s connector directory, and tools like ThoughtMetric are making their attribution data queryable through AI.
