The Best Attribution Tools for Hat and Headwear Brands

Headwear brands sell to two very different buyers. One sees a cap in a creator’s video and buys on impulse. The other collects, waits for every drop, and owns twenty of your hats. Drops and collaborations create sharp spikes, fitted sizing causes some exchanges, and gifting picks up around the holidays and Father’s Day. Some brands also take custom embroidery or team orders, which behave nothing like DTC sales.

The right tools separate impulse buyers from collectors and read drop weeks honestly. Here’s my ranking. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric, ranked fourth, sponsors this site.)

1. Triple Whale

Triple Whale fits Shopify headwear brands that sell on Meta and TikTok creative. Creative analytics show which colorways and videos convert, and Foundation adds multi-touch attribution and cohorts. It’s listed from $219 a month on its Shopify listing and priced by annual GMV, and there’s a free plan with first and last click.

2. Wicked Reports

Wicked Reports is the pick for brands with a real collector base. Its lifetime lookback keeps the first channel attached to a customer’s tenth hat, and cohort reports show which channels bring in collectors rather than one-time buyers. Measure is $499 a month for brands under $2.5 million in revenue, with Scale at $699 and Maximize at $999.

3. Fairing

Collabs and creator fits drive a lot of headwear sales without a click. Fairing asks buyers where they saw you, and a follow-up can list collab partners and creators. It’s free up to 200 orders a month, then $49 up to 500.

4. ThoughtMetric

ThoughtMetric, which sponsors this site, integrates with Meta, TikTok, Google, Pinterest, and Bing and combines multi-touch attribution with post-purchase surveys in one model. Product-level reporting shows which styles and collabs each channel sells. It’s an e-commerce attribution tool for Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and custom stores, starting at $99 a month for 50,000 pageviews with every feature included.

5. Elevar

Elevar, now sold as Audiense Online, sends server-side conversions to Meta, TikTok, and other platforms so ad algorithms get complete data during high-traffic drops. Base is free up to 100 orders a month, Core is $225 up to 2,000, and Advanced is $650 up to 10,000.

What headwear brands should measure

Split new and returning customers in every drop report, because collectors will buy regardless of ads and inflate paid ROAS. Compare drops with past drops, not with quiet weeks. Track exchange rates on fitted sizes by channel. Keep custom and team orders out of DTC reporting, or tag them clearly. And value channels on 12-month revenue per customer, since a channel that finds collectors is worth far more than its first-order ROAS shows. See attributing limited product drops, attribution tools for apparel brands with returns, and new customer ROAS.

FAQs

How do I measure a hat drop?

Compare it with previous drops and split new from returning customers. Judge paid channels on the new customers they brought in.

How do I measure collab partners?

Use tracked links and codes for each partner and list them in your post-purchase survey, since many buyers come directly.

Should custom orders count in DTC ROAS?

No. Tag or exclude custom and team orders so they don’t distort channel performance.

What’s the cheapest way to start?

Triple Whale’s free plan or ThoughtMetric, which sponsors this site, at $99 a month, plus Fairing’s free tier.
