The Best Attribution Tools for Skate and Surf Brands

Skate and surf brands sell on credibility. Team rider clips, shop endorsements, and video parts do more for the brand than any carousel ad, and most of that influence never produces a click. Demand is seasonal and regional, peaking in summer and concentrated near the coast or in skate-heavy cities. Hardgoods like boards and wetsuits carry high AOVs and long research, while tees and hats sell on impulse. And many brands also sell through core shops, so online numbers only show part of the picture.

Here’s how I’d rank the attribution tools for a skate or surf brand. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric, ranked fourth, sponsors this site.)

1. Triple Whale

Triple Whale suits Shopify skate and surf brands running clip-based ads on Meta and TikTok. Creative analytics show which riders and edits actually sell, and Foundation adds multi-touch attribution and cohorts. Foundation is listed from $219 a month on its Shopify listing, priced by annual GMV, and there’s a free plan with first and last click.

2. Northbeam

Northbeam is for bigger brands spending real money on YouTube and video placements. Its Clicks + Deterministic Views model credits ads people watched without clicking, which is how most rider content works. Starter is listed from $1,500 a month for brands under $1.5 million a year in ad spend, and Professional is $3,500 a month on annual terms.

3. KnoCommerce

A post-purchase survey is the only way to see how much a team rider’s part or a local shop’s recommendation is worth. KnoCommerce lets you add follow-up questions naming riders or video releases. Starter is $19 a month, Analyst $119, and Pro $299.

4. ThoughtMetric

ThoughtMetric, which sponsors this site, integrates with Meta, TikTok, Google, Pinterest, and Bing and folds post-purchase survey answers into its multi-touch model, so rider content gets some credit even without clicks. It doesn’t model view-through conversions. Product-level reporting separates boards and wetsuits from apparel and accessories. It’s an e-commerce attribution tool for Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and custom stores, starting at $99 a month for 50,000 pageviews.

5. Daasity

Daasity unifies digital and retail data, including Shopify B2B and wholesale, so brands that sell heavily through core shops can see total demand in one place. It’s listed from $1,899 a month on its Shopify listing, with usage based on revenue, so it only makes sense for larger brands with meaningful wholesale.

What skate and surf brands should measure

Compare seasons with the same season last year, not with the month before. Split hardgoods and softgoods, because their paths to purchase and margins are completely different. Watch direct and branded search after a video drop, since that’s where unclicked rider content shows up. Break results out by region if you advertise nationally. And if shops carry your product, track MER with wholesale separated out so online spend isn’t credited for shop sales. See attribution tools for outdoor and sporting goods brands, calculating MER when you also sell wholesale, and attribution tools and YouTube ads.

FAQs

How do I measure team rider content?

Watch branded search and direct traffic after releases, use rider codes, and ask buyers in a post-purchase survey. Click tracking alone will miss most of it.

Should hardgoods and apparel be measured separately?

Yes. Boards and wetsuits take longer to buy and carry different margins, so blended ROAS hides which channels sell which.

How do I handle shop and wholesale sales?

Keep wholesale out of online ROAS, and if it’s a big share, use a tool like Daasity that combines retail and digital data.

What’s the cheapest way to start?

Triple Whale’s free plan or ThoughtMetric, which sponsors this site, at $99 a month, plus KnoCommerce from $19 a month.
