The Best Attribution Tools for Toy and Game Brands

Toy and board game brands have three measurement problems most DTC categories don’t. The buyer usually isn’t the user, so the parent or grandparent who orders is not the kid who saw the unboxing video. A big share of the year lands in the weeks before the holidays. And many brands sell as much on Amazon and through retail as on their own site, so the ad that drove the sale often gets no credit at all.

No single tool solves all three. Here’s how I’d rank them for a toy or game brand with its own store. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric, ranked third, sponsors this site.)

1. Lifetimely

Lifetimely is a good base for toy brands because it starts with profit. Holiday promotions and shipping costs can make December revenue look better than December margin, and Lifetimely’s profit and cohort reports show both. Its Amazon add-on, $75 a month on any paid plan, brings Amazon sales into the same view. It’s free up to 50 orders a month, then $79 up to 500, $149 up to 3,000, and $299 up to 7,000. It isn’t built for multi-touch attribution, so use it alongside one of the tools below.

2. Triple Whale

Triple Whale gives you attribution, creative reporting, and a store dashboard in one place, which helps when you’re running heavy Meta and TikTok spend in November. It has a free plan, and Foundation is listed from $219 a month on its Shopify listing, with the price set by annual GMV and paid plans running 12 months, which is a real cost for a brand whose year is mostly one quarter.

3. ThoughtMetric

ThoughtMetric, which sponsors this site, gives multi-touch credit across Meta, Google, TikTok, Pinterest, and email, adds post-purchase surveys to catch YouTube and word of mouth, and reports by product so you can see which games or toys each channel sells. It’s an e-commerce attribution tool for Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and custom stores. It measures orders on your own store, so Amazon sales sit outside it. Pricing starts at $99 a month for 50,000 pageviews, monthly or annual.

4. Wicked Reports

Wicked Reports includes an Amazon revenue integration on its Maximize plan, at $999 a month for brands up to $2.5 million in revenue. Lower plans start at $499 for Measure. Its lifetime lookback and new customer reporting also help game brands that sell expansions and sequels to the same households.

5. KnoCommerce

When a grandparent orders a game, the click path tells you nothing about why. A post-purchase survey can ask who it’s for and how they heard about it, which is often a TikTok the grandkid showed them or a recommendation from another parent. KnoCommerce starts at $19 a month, with Analyst at $119 and Pro at $299.

What toy and game brands should measure

Watch blended numbers in Q4, not only attributed ones. When Amazon and retail sales rise with your ad spend, site-only ROAS understates what the ads did, so track total revenue across channels against total spend. Split new and returning buyers, since gift buyers who come back next November are worth more than their first order suggests. And expect a lag, because shoppers who research in early November often buy in December. More in gift shoppers and Q4 new customer numbers and attribution tools for baby and kids brands.

FAQs

How do toy brands measure ads that drive Amazon sales?

Most site attribution tools can’t see Amazon orders. Watch total revenue across your store and Amazon against total ad spend, and use tools with Amazon integrations, like Lifetimely’s add-on or Wicked Reports Maximize, where you need it in one report.

What attribution window works for holiday toy shopping?

Longer than a week. Many holiday buyers research early and buy later, so check your own days-to-purchase data from last November and December and set the window to cover most of it.

Is a 12-month contract a problem for toy brands?

It can be. If most revenue comes in Q4, a 12-month term means paying through slow months. Triple Whale’s paid plans run 12 months, while ThoughtMetric, which sponsors this site, offers monthly billing.

Do post-purchase surveys work for gift purchases?

Yes, and they’re more useful for gifts than for most categories. Ask who the gift is for and where they heard about it, and you’ll learn things no pixel can tell you.
