A bike or e-bike is one of the largest purchases most online stores sell. Buyers watch long YouTube reviews, compare specs and frame sizes, look for a test ride, and often pay with financing. Many brands also sell through dealers, so the online ad that started the research may end in a shop, and accessories and service keep customers coming back after the bike.
That makes short attribution windows misleading and makes the mid-funnel steps more useful than orders for judging campaigns. Here is what I would look for and five tools that fit.
What matters for a bike brand
| Need | Why it matters | Tools that handle it |
|---|---|---|
| Long windows | Research runs for weeks or months | ThoughtMetric (sponsor), Northbeam |
| View-through credit | Review videos get watched, not clicked | Northbeam |
| Dealer and offline sales | Online ads often close in shops | Rockerbox, KnoCommerce |
| Lead tracking | Test-ride bookings predict orders | ThoughtMetric (sponsor), GA4 |
| Survey data | Group rides and shop advice leave no click | KnoCommerce, ThoughtMetric (sponsor) |
1. Northbeam
Northbeam fits a bike brand spending heavily on YouTube and paid social. Its Clicks + Deterministic Views feature credits ads people watched but did not click, which suits long review and ride videos. Starter is listed at $1,500 a month for brands spending under $1.5 million a year on ads and is limited to Shopify. Professional, at $3,500 a month, works with any e-commerce platform.
2. Rockerbox
Rockerbox is for the larger brand with a dealer network, events or TV. It brings digital and offline channels into one dataset and offers multi-touch attribution, MMM and incrementality testing. It is part of DoubleVerify, and pricing is not listed on its website.
3. ThoughtMetric
ThoughtMetric is an e-commerce attribution tool for Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and custom stores. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.) The closest customer evidence is Ninja MTB, a mountain bike skills clinic brand on WooCommerce, which says it cut $5,000 a month in wasted ad spend and improved ROAS by 25% after moving budget to its best channels. It reports leads alongside orders and supports multiple attribution models, so you can look at the first touch as well as the last. Pricing starts at $99 a month based on pageviews, with every feature on every plan.
4. KnoCommerce
KnoCommerce catches the shop recommendation, the group ride and the reviewer someone trusted. Add the big YouTube channels in your niche as answer options. Starter is $19 a month, Analyst $119 and Pro $299, billed monthly with no long-term contracts and a 7-day trial.
5. Google Analytics 4
GA4 is free and the easiest place to build the funnel itself. Fire events for size guide use, bike configurator steps, financing checks and test-ride bookings, then compare those rates by source.
Count the test ride
For e-bikes I report test-ride bookings by channel next to orders. They move faster, they are less noisy at low volume, and they show whether a new campaign is finding serious buyers. Judge channels on a window long enough to cover the research cycle, often 30 days or more. More in attribution for long purchase cycles, Northbeam alternatives for high-AOV brands and attribution tools for outdoor and sporting goods brands.
After the bike, the relationship continues. Helmets, racks, batteries and service bring customers back for years, so a channel that sends riders who later buy accessories is worth more than its first order shows. I would track returning customer revenue by first-order channel, even if the bike itself is a one-time purchase.
Financing changes the math too. When most buyers pay over time, conversion rate and AOV both shift, so compare channels on the same payment mix before deciding one converts better than another.
FAQs
How do bike brands attribute dealer sales?
With a survey at the dealer, dealer sales matched to email or phone, and regional comparisons when you change spend. No pixel sees a shop checkout.
Does financing affect attribution?
It can. If the financing step sends buyers to another domain, check that the order still connects to the original session.
What attribution window should an e-bike brand use?
At least 30 days for most channels, and longer for YouTube reviews. A 7-day window will make research channels look weak.
What is the best attribution tool for a bike brand?
Northbeam for heavy video spend, Rockerbox for dealer networks, and ThoughtMetric, our sponsor, as the lowest-cost multi-touch option with a cycling customer on record.
