A lot of Shopify brands under $20 million run 60 to 80 percent of paid spend through Meta. For them, an attribution tool has two jobs. The first is an independent read on what Meta actually drove, because Ads Manager grades its own work and counts view-through conversions generously. The second is better signal going back to Meta, so Advantage+ and broad targeting optimize toward real customers instead of whoever was going to buy anyway.
Triple Whale handles both. Its help center lists first-party data activation to Meta on the Foundation plan, and its pricing is based on annual GMV and package. If you are mainly a Meta shop, you may not need the rest of the platform. These five cover the same two jobs in different ways.
The short version
| Tool | Independent read on Meta | Signal back to Meta | Starting price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Northbeam | Clicks-Only plus view-through models | Northbeam Apex | $1,500 a month |
| ThoughtMetric (sponsor) | Multi-touch, split by new and returning | Conversion API to Meta and Google | $99 a month |
| Wicked Reports | First-party, new versus repeat buyers | Advanced Signal (Meta CAPI) | $499 a month |
| KnoCommerce | What buyers say brought them | None | $19 a month |
| GA4 | Tagged clicks only | None | Free |
1. Northbeam
Northbeam is the most Meta-aware tool here. Its Clicks + Views models give credit to impressions, which matters for a channel where many buyers never click, and its Apex feature is built to feed custom attribution back to ad delivery algorithms. The catch is time and money. Its docs say the view-based model needs about 30 days of learning, and Starter is listed at $1,500 a month for brands under $1.5 million in annual ad spend, month-to-month for Shopify.
2. ThoughtMetric
ThoughtMetric is an e-commerce attribution tool for Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and custom stores. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.) It gives you a multi-touch view of Meta next to every other channel, with each order credited once, and splits results into new and returning customers. That split is where Meta usually looks different. Retargeting and Advantage+ can lean heavily on existing customers, and the new-customer number tells you what prospecting is buying. Its Conversion API sends server-side events to Meta and Google. Pricing starts at $99 a month based on pageviews.
3. Wicked Reports
Wicked Reports is built around new versus repeat customers and a weekly scale, chill or kill call per channel. Its Advanced Signal add-on sends a verified new-customer event to Meta. Under $2.5 million in revenue, Measure is $499 a month, Advanced Signal is a $199 add-on on Measure or Scale, and Maximize at $999 includes it. It is a good fit if you want the tool to push Meta toward new buyers, not just report on it.
4. KnoCommerce
KnoCommerce is a post-purchase survey, and for Meta it answers a question pixels struggle with: did the buyer see you on Instagram or Facebook, even without clicking? If 40 percent of new customers name Instagram and your click-based tool credits Meta with 15 percent, that gap is worth knowing. Starter is $19 a month and Analyst, with integrations, is $119, billed monthly with no long-term contract.
5. Google Analytics 4
GA4 is free and only sees Meta when someone clicks a tagged ad. It will undercount Meta, often badly, which makes it a useful floor. If Ads Manager says $100,000 and GA4 says $30,000, the truth is between them, and the job of the other tools on this list is to narrow that range.
The test that settles it
Tools will disagree about Meta. The cleanest tiebreaker is a holdout. Turn off Meta prospecting in a few regions for two to three weeks, keep everything else the same, and compare new-customer orders against similar regions. It is cheap to run and it tells you more than any model. I wrote up the method in running a cheap geo holdout. FAQs
Is Meta’s reported ROAS inflated?
Usually, yes. Ads Manager counts view-through conversions and credits sales other channels also touched. How much depends on your mix of prospecting and retargeting, which is why a new-customer split matters.
Does Meta’s Conversions API replace an attribution tool?
No. CAPI improves the data Meta receives, so its optimization and reporting get better. It does not tell you how Meta compares with Google, email or TikTok. More in Does Meta’s Conversions API replace an attribution tool?
Does Triple Whale send data back to Meta?
Yes. Its help center lists first-party data activation to Meta, Google, TikTok and Klaviyo on the Foundation plan, depending on your connected platforms.
Which attribution model is fairest to Meta?
A model that includes some view-through credit, checked against a survey. Click-only models undercount Meta, and Meta’s own reporting overcounts it. Look at both and run a holdout once a year.
