A lot of attribution tools advertise a free trial or a free plan. Fewer let you test actual multi-touch attribution for free, which is the thing you are buying. Free plans often stop at first and last click, and some trials only cover tracking. So for this list I looked at one question: can you try the multi-touch models themselves before you pay? I covered the wider category, including profit and tracking tools, in e-commerce attribution tools with a free trial.
1. ThoughtMetric
ThoughtMetric has a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.) Because every feature is on every plan, the trial includes the full product: five attribution models, lookback windows from 7 to 90 days, post-purchase surveys, product-level attribution, and the AI Connectors. After the trial, pricing is based on monthly pageviews, starting at $99 a month for 50,000, billed monthly or annually. It supports Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento, and custom stores, so non-Shopify brands can trial it too.
2. Attribuly
Attribuly is a Shopify attribution app whose App Store listing shows a free plan and a 14-day free trial on paid plans, with multi-touch attribution and view-through attribution among its features. It also offers an MCP server for AI agents. Check exactly which models the free plan includes versus the paid trial, and read the billing terms carefully, since paid plans bill through Shopify once the trial ends.
3. Triple Whale
Triple Whale skips the trial in favor of a free plan. It is a useful way to get its pixel collecting data and learn the interface with no time limit. The catch for this list is that full multi-touch models and windows sit on the paid tiers, which are priced on annual GMV through a demo and run on 12-month terms. So the free plan lets you try Triple Whale, but not the multi-touch attribution you would be paying for.
4. TrackBee
TrackBee is mainly a Shopify server-side tracking tool, with a 30-day free trial and no card, and the clock starts when you connect your first ad account. Its add-on, Insights, is described as attribution that reconciles what each platform claims, answered through Claude or ChatGPT, for €19.99 a month on top of a plan. It is not positioned as a full multi-touch model, so treat it as a lighter option and test it on the specific channel question you care about.
5. Northbeam, via month-to-month Starter
Northbeam does not offer a free trial. Its Starter plan, listed at $1,500 a month for brands spending under $1.5M a year on ads, runs month to month for Shopify brands, so a paid one- or two-month test is possible without an annual contract. It is an expensive trial, and only makes sense if your spend already puts Northbeam on the shortlist.
Why a 14-day trial is shorter than it looks
Multi-touch attribution needs touchpoints, and a tool only sees them from the day its pixel goes live. If your customers take a week to buy, the first week of a trial mostly shows orders whose journeys started before the install, which get credited to whatever the tool happened to see last. Realistically you get one clean week of multi-touch data in a two-week trial.
Three things help. Install the pixel on day one, before you explore anything. Pick a narrow question you already have a view on, like whether Meta prospecting is underrated, and check whether the tool changes your answer. And ask for an extension if you need it. Serious vendors usually give one. My full process is in what I check before I trust a new attribution tool’s numbers.
What to compare during the trial
Check that the tool’s total attributed orders roughly match Shopify for the same dates. Look at how channel shares shift between first-touch, last-touch, and a multi-touch model, since that shift is what you are paying for. And see how long it takes you to answer one real budget question. If you cannot answer it in the trial, you will not answer it faster after paying.
