The Ecomm Analyst

Growing stores, one honest take at a time.

Easy to use multi-touch attribution tools

“Easy to use” is on every attribution vendor’s homepage, so it has stopped meaning much. The test I use instead is time to a first useful answer: from the moment you sign up, how long until a non-analyst can look at the tool and confidently move budget between two channels? That depends on setup, on how many choices the tool asks you to make, and on whether the reports speak the same language as the people deciding.

By that test, here is how the main multi-touch options compare. I covered easy attribution tools more broadly in easy e-commerce attribution tools that don’t need a developer. This one sticks to tools with real multi-touch models.

1. ThoughtMetric

ThoughtMetric is the quickest to a usable answer of the tools I have used. (Disclosure: ThoughtMetric sponsors this site.) Onboarding is four steps: install the pixel, set currency and time zone, connect ad accounts, and add tracking parameters. Most stores are running in about 15 minutes, and every customer gets a free onboarding call. The reports are organized by channel, campaign, ad set, and ad, with new versus returning splits that founders tend to understand without a glossary. You choose between five attribution models, which is enough to compare views without making every meeting a model debate. Custom dashboards do not need code, and the AI Connectors let anyone ask questions from Claude or ChatGPT. It starts at $99 a month for 50,000 pageviews with a 14-day free trial.

2. Attribuly

Attribuly installs from the Shopify App Store, which keeps setup light, and its listing shows a free plan and a 14-day trial on paid plans. Reviewers often mention the interface and real-time event tracking. It also covers cart recovery and Klaviyo syncing, which adds features but also adds menus. If attribution is your only goal, stay focused on its attribution reports during the trial.

3. Triple Whale

Triple Whale is easy to install and its summary dashboard is easy to read. Where it gets harder is the breadth behind that summary: several attribution models and windows, creative reports, cohorts, custom metrics, and Moby. A team that sets one house model and one dashboard can get to answers fast. A team that explores everything can take weeks to settle on what to trust. Paid plans are priced on annual GMV with 12-month terms, and there is a free plan to start.

4. Northbeam

Northbeam is powerful and not easy. Multiple models, windows, accounting modes, and view-through credit give experienced buyers a lot to work with, and its own FAQ warns that your numbers will look different from Ads Manager. Professional, at $3,500 a month, includes a dedicated media strategist, which helps close the gap. I would only call it easy if that strategist is doing much of the interpreting.

What actually makes attribution easy

Interfaces matter less than people think. Three other things matter more.

Fewer valid answers. Every extra model and window is another way for two people to pull different numbers. Easy tools either limit the choices or make it simple to lock a default.

Numbers that reconcile. If total attributed revenue is close to Shopify’s revenue, people trust the tool. If it is wildly off in either direction, every meeting starts with an argument about the data. Check this on day one.

Vocabulary that matches the business. New customer revenue, blended CAC, and MER mean something to a founder. Modeled assisted conversions do not. The easiest tools lead with the first set.

A quick ease-of-use test

During a trial, hand the tool to whoever makes budget decisions, usually not the person evaluating it, and ask them one question without help: should we move $5,000 from Google to Meta next month? Time how long it takes and how confident they are in the answer. That five-minute test tells you more than any feature comparison. If the decision-maker cannot do it, the tool will end up as a report one person maintains for everyone else. About

Six years in e-commerce. Three Shopify stores across different niches, one scaled past seven figures. I’ve tested hundreds of ad creatives, obsessed over email flows, and learned more from my failures than my wins.

Now I focus on conversion optimization, retention marketing, and the analytics behind it all. This blog is where I share what actually works, backed by real numbers. No fluff, no guru energy.
